Review Comments
(U+621C) is read as dié, 説文:利也,一曰提也. They are non-cognate.
Disagree. UK-10053 is the variant of 城 according to the evidence, and 戜 (U+621C) is read as dié, 説文:利也,一曰提也. They are non-cognate and have different glyph shapes, so are not unifiable.
Disagree. UK-10053 is the variant of 城 according to the evidence, and 戜 (U+621C) is read as dié, 説文:利也,一曰提也. They are non-cognate.
The actual shape in the inscription (班簋) is like below (character in the center). Though its left hand component is somewhat obscure, it is identifiable as 呈 via similar glyphs on 戜者簋 etc. Despite the footnote, latest study has found this unlikely to be a variant of 城, which has median initial, while 呈 lateral. 説文 was compiled on post-Qin orthography, which as such unable to attest cognacy in pre-Qin writing where word-character correspondence is not fixed and non-phonetic components are liberally replaced. The meaning of the word is still disputed, so it should be either unified to 戜 according to the structure, or withdrawn as premature transcription.
I would also like to point out that various typographical and theoretical errors seen in the source literature make it generally unsuitable for new character proposal.
